I have a 2003 f250 that is losing coolant. It seems to be blowing out of the radiator cap. When I accelerate I think I can hear it whistle. Lost a gallon in a week. Help
Had the coolant puking issue and the annoying "whistle" also. Turned out that 7 of 8 cylinders had very visible signs of compression leaks (lots of blue "epoxy" missing from the factory head gaskets.
Hope its just the EGR issue as BlackHat says as it can be easily remedied by Ford.
Question for you, when you turn the truck off do you hear any gurgling or bubbling in the degas bottle? If so, wait until it stops venting, open the cap and run your finger inside the degas and see if you feel any oily residue (or even smell it) if its a bad enough leak.
If its a compression leak I'd highly recommend biting the bullet and letting someone other than the factory handle your repair w/ headstuds (like ARP) and/or some improved headgaskets (wire or fire-ring). Also, some techs, namely LIPD (an FTE sponsor), offer a modification to the rear of the block to improve coolant flow to that vital area that the stock engine addresses rather poorly. This leads to hot spots at the rear of the block which can, and often do contribute to head warpage and subsequent compression leakage.
Good luck Debbieman. These motors are bad-to-the-bone but just need a few improvements in design to maximize durability and performance.
