MAP replacement - White Smoke - Check Engine Light

Months ago our 95 F350 started doing some really weird stuff. For days and weeks she would run fine - then all of a sudden the check engine light would come on - she'd start running REALLY rough , and start spewing white smoke. Almost like she was bogging down and would lose about 80% of the power.

We were in Austin Texas yesterday and she did it again. Normally she would line herself out and be fine after about 10 mins of idling.

Several months ago we took it into a Ford Dealership and they told us we needed to replace the entire Motor and its costs would be around 8500.00 plus labor (HA ! ) We drove it there and outta there with no problems so I told them they could kiss my ***.

Yesterday we found a shop in Austin Tx called Austin Fuel and Injector - These guys do some really high end fuel / exhaust / injector upgrades and the mechanics name is Billy.

Their shop was busy as hell and they just didn't have time to do anything for us. Billy came outside with his scanner and the entire passenger side's injectors were all showing bad. He automatically told me to pull it under a tree in the back and he would tell us how to fix it to get us back on the road.

Apparently there is a common problem on the early 7.3PSs in where the valve cover gasket (which also houses the electronics for the injectors) will burn out the plugs. When this happens - it could be 1 or 2 or 4 of the injectors that appear to be bad under a simple scan.

We were told and had a Ford Dealership replace our MAP sensor with no fix to the problem. We were also told (b/c the ford mechanics at most dealerships are idiots on diesels) that we needed to replace our motors.

We pulled the cover - and sure as hell - both plugs were burnt out... replaced the gasket and the plugs and voila - problem solved !

I know there are others out here that have experienced the same issues and even after replacing the MAP sensor still have this issue.

When an injector loses power, the ECM automatically will throw the motor into a "limp" mode to protect from fuel washing out the rings ... not sure if I am explaining this right.. I am sure SOMEONE here knows what I am trying to say and will chime in.

I hope this post helps as much as some of the other information i've found on this site to help us out.

Austin Fuel and Injection........ You guys rock !
