I was like to go to 33 12.50 tires but I tow a boat with my truck and I'm concerned about sidewall flex.I was thinking about 16" rims with 33" tires. Has any body tried this setup or know anyone who did? I
would think by doing this I'd maintain some handling and get my ground clearance also.
i know several people with 33" tires on their trucks that tow trailers, they've never complained about tire flex. you did'nt say what motor or suspension mods you have, if you're stock you might think about tire clearance and gear ratio's
before you spend the cash on those 33's
Eric thanks for the reply. I have a 5.8 E4OD with 3.55 gears. I have a trailmaster add a leaf in the rear and superlift 2" lift coil springs in the front. I've since decided to sell the boat so I won't be towing anything heavy. Only my dirt bike trailer. I have stock 265/75 tires on factory Alum wheels. Do you think I could mount 33" tires on them. I will probably end up with new wheels eventually $$ and some new gears $$ and then maybe a 4" lift. I never know when to stop.
joe, should'nt be a problem mounting 33" on 15" rims most manufacturers make one that will fit.congratulations on selling the boat i sold mine this year, was very happy to watch that payment drive away. my truck & quads are more fun anyway. i don't know how well your 5.8 turns your tires, my 5.0 is great with no load but struggles a little with a trailer up grades. i have about every bolt on mod you can get, except a new ignition, which is next. then maybe a gear swap with lockers. what kind of wheeling do you do sand ,mud, rocks ? do you care how noisy your tires are? or are they mostly for show?
I ran from southern Missouri to southern California with a rear axle weight on a loaded 1/2 ton of about 5500 lbs. (more than the gross for the truck) with 10.50x15 4 ply tires and didn't have any problems, so towing a boat occasionally shouldn't cause problems.
