no. You can be going 99 mph and push the button. The only thing that will happen is that your engine will rev up to a higher RPM and it really isn't a good thing to do alot. You shouldn't even come close to the Rev limit though.
your O/D doesn't even get used until your going 40+mph though. So there is no real reason to disable it unless towing or to engine brake when going down a steep hill.
That is exactly what I was wondering about. Towing our trailer at 65 mph and turning the overdrive off when I find myself going down a long hill and want some engine braking so I don't wear out my brakes or overheat the brake fluid.
keep overdrive off when towing. the extra drag on the engine will cause it to keep down shifting . that means your transmission is going to heat up . not good.
for long downhill towing you should turn O/D off. it will help keep your brakes cooler and the engine braking won't hurt the motor or the transmission
you only need to turn O/D off during normal towing if you see the transmission downshifting to 3rd. I personally leave it in O/D on flat ground and lock it out when I get into hills that cause it to downshift.

I NEVER tow in Overdrive... even if it is only a 400 lb trailer with my nephews 600lb quad.... I am an old school 3 speed slush boxer... so I have no problem using my current truck as a 3 speeder slushy
