Question "Restore" additive

Any thoughts on "Restore"? I have a buddy using it and swears by the stuff, I on the other hand have not had experience with it so I wanted to get some opinions.
Thanks!

IMO don't even bother. It's kind of like that lucas oil stabilizer. Pure marketing, and nothing to back it up.

I have tested both products myself. They were about on par with each other, but both failed to significantly reduce oil consumption for more than 1,000 miles. Both products caused the oil to become black and tarlike faster, and both interfer with the viscosity and detergent additives in the oil. If you have an engine that has a mechanical problem, the best thing you can do is to either repair or replace the engine.

I don't understand why, we would want to pour into our engines, a product containing copper, silver & lead particles!!!!

Those solid particles, are some of the very things our oil filters are trying to keep out of the engine!!!!

Notice two things about "Restore", it says to use a new oil filter & shake the Restore contaner well before using.

SO, after we pour it in, how then do we shake our engines well, to remix the setteled out CSL particles, before the next restart?????

Also, how do the particles know, not go where they shouldn't & clog something important up?????

Notce they say to use a NEW oil filter!!!!
This is because an old oil filter is more efficient at filtering, because it has already had many of it's smaller pores stopped up, as it should, doing it's filtering job, so then, if we pour in Restore, with an old filter in place, those CSL particles will be more likely to finish clogging the filter & maybe send that puppy into bypass!!!!

Or how do the Restore particles know not to go places they shouldn't, like between tight bearing spaces, where those particles displace & exceed the oil film's thickness & change tolerances & the coefficient of friction, on those rubbed surfaces!!!!!

Then we should ask ourselves, if we would rather have an oil film between those bearing surfaces, or particles of copper, silver & lead!!!!!

Just some thoughts to ponder.

I did try restore once. It sure didn't quiet down or make the engine run smoother like the commercials claim.

didnt work for me either!! as far as the lucas goes i run it in every gear box here from 18speed transmisions to the rearend of the lawn mower. with a million 2hundredtousands miles on the rears of my pete we pulled them apart to check'em all we had to do was replace a thrust washer and put back together.that rite there my friends sold me on lucas.granted the oil was changed twice a year and refilled with 4gal of 80-90 and 1 gal of lucas. i wouldnt run it in and engine tho, just anything thats gear on gear

I've used Engine Restore on both my vehicles I've owned. My 92 Hyundai and my 94 Ranger. There was a very significant difference in the way they both ran after using it. The power was noticably up in both. I have no complaints about running it in either one. Word for word on the bottle is what I noticed gaining without taking it out of context and thinking it should do things it cant. After the first 800-1000 miles both idle'd smoother, had a smoother time revving, accelerated quicker, and I gained about 5 mph in each gear somehow before the rev limiter would kick in. I dont know how I'd get more speed from it but I did, both are 5-speeds. Neither one burned oil of any significant amount to begin with so I have nothing to report there. Like I said though, no complaints and I got added performance to boot.

I've used Restore in my '89 for a few years now. After the first use it did idle a bit smoother. Nothing extraordinary, but when you have been driving the same truck for almost nine years, you can tell the difference. Still runs great after 206,000 miles.

Along the lines of what pawpaw is saying:

I used that crap in my 86 bronco a few years ago.. about 3 days after i put it in, it started burning oil (blue smoke out of the exhaust) figure that one out..oil level was right on, not overfilled....BTW. i added the stuff in when I changed the oil. Stay Away from Restore!

I've never used restore in anything or put Lucas in my vehicles but my dad used the Lucas in his old generator motor a few years ago. We had a big ice storm and my dad was without power for 7 days. When he started his old generator it would die about every 3 hours or so from a low oil shut down system on the old B&S motor. After pouring Lucas in there it would extend the shut off intervals until finally it stopped burning oil all together. He wasn't using pure lucas in it but mixing it in with the oil. I think its pretty good stuff and I have had good luck with their P/S pump conditioner in some of my older vehicles and the trans-fixer they have worked pretty good in my dad's little POS S-10
