Updates on my Junk

Well, tonite I got a wild hair up something an decided to tear into my truck thats been parked for a while. I started by un-bolting my driverside exhaust an removing it completely. Then I put a jack under my NP435 and removed my tranny/tcase crossmember. Then I removed my NP208 that was residing under the truck.

Then, things got more interesting. Since I didn't have access to a tranny jack I had to man handle my NP205 20 some inches and bolt it up under my truck. After I almost lost my pointer finger on my right hand my brother came up with a few levers and with the help of my mom and his gf we got the 205 under the truck an bolted in.

Then I got a few surprises. Exhaust will no longer come close to workin on driverside. The crossmember I built for the 208 hits the front output shaft on the 205. The rear driveshaft is 5-6" short. Front d-shaft I haven't made so thats not a problem.

Tomorrow I will hafta take a few pics and hopefully get it rolling again. Might even fab up a new rear shaft if I have enuf old ones laying around.

So Thomsen if you drop in, should be up an running by labor day if your still on.

I'm also going to truggy out the truck while I'm at it. Going to shackle flip my rear, lose my blocks, re-set my front suspension to get more compresion and less droop. Hopefully I will find a D60 front to throw under it too.

I'm going to make it totally an off-road rig now that I have a car trailer to haul it around with.

I can't believe you attempted to get the 205 in there single handed... 149 lbs man x super awkward/ungailny chunk = one hell of a difficult time. Good luck, deffinately interested in the truggy part. You might be FTE's first truggy-er, I don't know. For fab ideas look on PBB

No updates today. End up in the field all day, maybe tomorrow I'll get a chance. I'd really like to get the crossmembers fabbed up by tomorrow nite so I can get a rear d-shaft built by the end of the weekend. I don't think I am going to worry about a front shaft until I get a replacement from axle.

I need to get parts lined up for the front axle. What do I need to find for a power steering box that I can do crossover steering with? Right now I have armstrong steering and its going to be changed out to hydro assist.

Or.........Should I just go full hydro? What all does a guy need to do full hydro, i'm sure I could piece it together fairly cheap if I knew exactly what I needed.

if you have to redo driveshafts and your thinking about truggying it and putting a 60 in the front, i woudl wait!! go ahead and hack the bed off, shorten the wheelbase or whtever you plan to do, setup the suspension, put teh 60 in the front then make the driveshafts....just my humble opinion

its always a good time to throw a doubler in front of teh 205 too

yes manhandling the 205's single handedly sucks...but its a good way to workout your upper body....just sucks when you drop it on yourself...

Thats the one thing I loved about my 208 that was under the truck. I one handed that thing out of there! LOL

Kubota gave me a great idea there. I can't remember for sure what my wheelbase is at the moment (I thnk 118" or so), maybe I'll just move my rear axle forward to fit my current d-shaft, that'd be easier an take less time than making a new one!

Anyone need a pretty darned straight shortbox for a '67-'72?

Hey ramboss...definitely still on for labor day...I might be able to get my new racer cobbled together by gregory's mud bog too. We went camping this weekend on the cheyenne river and Beau (FEman on FTE) broke the front axle housing at the pumpkin on his 69 f-100, it is still sitting on the river bank. I also broke but not near as bad, just a front axle u-joint and steering stabalizer. good to hear you are making progress.

ramboss, i set my wheelbase at 112' and love it, my own opinion though, you should definantly cut the bed down and bob it, that would be pretty badass.

and also where did you find the adapter for the 205 case to the np435, as i still have the single speed that originaly came in our trucks.

my79f - I used the T-18 bellhousing when I did my 4x4 conversion on my truck. Then I got an NP435/208 combo out of an early 80s F150 and ran that till i broke my 208. The 205 bolted right up to the combination.

I'm still up in the air with what I'm going to do with the box/flatbed/truggy. Still looking for options and opinions.

I'm not going to insure/license this truck anymore so its going to be a trail only rig here soon.

Im partial to my 120" wheelbase with 44's and a flatbed made from a utility trailer gate....and i have no regrets taking the tag off it

Do you think your going to keep those 36's for awhile? if so i would shorten to around 112, if you think youll go bigger you may want to keep your wheelbase where its at....

Either way i say lose the bed, if your not using it as a truck to haul things there no point in dragging around the dead weight all the time, plus the added visibility of a flatbed was a huge plus, especially if the floor is expanded metal
