sputtering/coughing

im havin some trouble with my truck. i have a 2000 7.3 and for the past week after driving for about 45 mins i will just hardly be giving it any throttle and it starts to chug and cough and sputter like its not getting any fuel but then when step on it it stops it is worrying me. one day the service engine soon light came on then turned off? does anyone know what is up with my truck>?

Need to get that code read to point in the right direction.

Start with the basics, How many miles on the last oil and fuel filter change?
