How do I figure out what size my diff is, what gears I have, ect. ect.? Also, what does it take to convert my rear end to posi? The one wheel peel is pretty damn lame.
ether read the tag on the Axel or jack up one rear wheel and turn the wheel two full revolutions and count the drive shaft turns. give us that info and we will tell you what you have.
All the F150's came with the 8.8 inch rear end. This was also on many vans, and crown vics. The transmission is either the ZF5 or the Mazda 5 speed, likely the mazda five speed. They put both on the half tons.
The best way to figure out which gears on there is to crawl under and look at the tag. I will likely have some numbers that will go something liek this:
xxxxxxx 3 55
xxxxxxxxxxxx
or
xxxxxxx 3L55
xxxxxxxxxxxx
3 55 means 3.55:1 gears and the L in the middle means it's a limited slip. I don't know much about the half ton axles and whether a posi is available.
An easier way instead of jacking it up look at the axle code on the door jamb where the vin is and then decode it here in the articles/specs section and to tell if its posi
***it should be a letter and number like H9 which is a 3.55 limited slip (posi) but if you have no limited slip it should be like 19 or something which is a 3.55 non limited slip no posi but it could be a different letter and number or different number because there was more than a 3.55 gear ratio it should have an 8'8 axle
