Obviously, most have it on the "Tow Mode" level 2, but are you keeping the overdrive on or off? Somewhere I read turning off the OD changes shift points which is what the Edge is doing also. Just curious on what others are doing.
About to trailer four atv's 900 miles
Hello, I just got the edge and went camping with TT. I have a 5.4 2007 3.73's
I did not keep OD on before i had the edge, now I can keep od on. I just watch the trans temp on the edge. I have more power with the edge so im very happy. I keep it on lvl 2. Oh ya my TT weighs about 7,500lbs. to 8000 when i keep both lp tanks full.
I second what Viken said. I recently made a trip from San Antonio, Texas to Greenville, South Carolina towing the biggest U-haul trailer you can get (I think it was 6 x 12). It was fully loaded and 90% of the time I towed in overdrive. I did take it out when in town or freeway driving under 60 mph. I kept a close eye on the trans temp though it never got over 155. I also averaged 13 mpg over the whole trip. I was very impressed with the improvement when comparing it to times that I towed before I got the Edge. My truck now has a shade under 30,000 miles on it with absolutely no problems.
scrappy,
I really don't know at what point it is too high, but I know unloaded on the highway my truck runs 145-150 so I considered that towing is going to add a little more. The main reason I watch mine is to make sure it was not spiking. As long as it can maintain a temperature, say 155 then the trans cooler is doing its job. But if it kept going up I would worry about it because the cooler cannot bring it back down.
thanks. what gas mileage do you average when towing your TT? does your truck squat real bad?
Your truck shouldn't squat much at all since you should be using a weight distributing hitch with a trailer that heavy. The tongue weight is going to be roughly +/-800lbs. and the hitch is rated at 500 lbs.
Speed is going to be your biggest factor when towing. When towing a large TT, you're going to be pushing a ton of wind. Obviously, the faster you go, the more power it will take to push that air.
