testing a gmc ignition module
anyone know how to test an ignition module off of a 88 gmc 305? i really dont have anywhere to take it to get tested and i would like to know how to do it myself. thanks

I had a chevy corsica running the three coil pack module and was able to narrow it down from other factors. the wires you can test for resistance. If there is one reading significantly mroe resistance than the others, then it might be this. The coils themselves can be tested by looking at resistance as well. If you test across the input poles you should get one ohm or so. Much more than that and it's the culprit. Trade out plugs to make sure that it isn't a bad plug. If you're having a miss, no spark to the plugs, and what I mentioned is good, and there's no trouble codes then you have a bad module. The ignition module in the late 80-mid 90 chevy's and Fords didn't throw a code when it went bad.
