Anyone know how to do an injector balance test WITHOUT a fuel injector and harness tester? I have the fuel pressure gauge, but need to know of a way to isolate each cylinder...
The ECM in some Fords will allow you to enter into a cylinder balance diagnostic mode using your scan tool. What happens is each cylinder is sequentially dropped via killing the injector and the change in engine speed is noted. Dropping a cylinder and with a resulting engine speed change much more dramatic (ie, minimal change) than the others is flagged; I don't recall the percentage change in engine speed that throws up the flag. While this does not directly confirm a weak injector, you should be able to swap a suspect injector with a cylinder that passes the test then repeat the test. If the problem follows the injector, you found it.

Doesn't have to be OBD-II. Any EEC-IV SEFI vehicle will perform the test. After the KOER test, you can stab the throttle and it'll go into that test format. It doesn't work on MEFI but it works on SEFI (multiport vs sequential).
