The good HO(E7TE heads with roller cam) ran from 1987-1995 I believe, was found primarily in Mustangs from those years but also in Cougars, the Lincoln Mark coupe and police Crown Vics before the 4.6 was available. They switched from forged pistons to hypereutectic in 91 or 92.

No, Mustang 87-95 or Lincoln Mark VII 87-92 had the real HO engines in them.

The cover badge on the top of the intake will say 5.0 HO.

But that's easily changed. Remove the plate and look under it, a real H.O. will have those letters cast into the cavity below.

The plate is on top of the intake and I believe that it is 4 screws that hold the cover on. Won't even take a minute to remove and check.

Can't he just look at the firing order? The HO should have the 351W order, non HO will have the regular 302 order.
