1996 f250 4x4 7.3 power stroke going down the road and it cuts out two or three times and quits the check engine light , the battery light and the wait to start light flash on and off. The IDM relay clicks on and off also. Sometimes you can turn the key off and back on and it will start and sometimes it takes a while but has not failed to start yet. It might run a week before it does it again. any idea what the problem is?
toreed47 even though this sensor says it only for 97+ trucks you can use it on your 96. it is much cheaper than the ones out there for the 96 and under trucks. Like $125 cheaper from the dealer! and it still less then half price of the ones floating around ebay.
back again same problem I hope the cps last more than 2 or 3 hundred miles. Doing the same as before what I can't under stand is why the battery light and wait to start light blink on and off when this happens.
If the engine does not completely die I would check the Throttle Position Sensor. I have had a similiar problem while driving down the road and I tap on the acelerato a few times while still rolling and it picks up. All the lights come on as well. Just a thought not sure if this is your problem but doesn't help to check. I unplugged it and checked the connections and replugged it and wiggled it to be sure it has a good contact and it hasn't done it in a while. Hope it helps.
