It's 9K capacity (4x2 models) is more than adequate for most Excursion owners that I "see" here based on what they say they tow.
It ain't no Excursion but it most certainly is a very, nice truck. It's a bit smaller, maybe not as capable in some regards but is a much more refined product than the Excursion was. I'm sure it fits the bill of 85% of Excursion owners based on how they use their truck on a regular basis.
It was never meant as a replacement for the Excursion.
I was at my local dealer and asked the sales manager if he has heard of a diesel in the expedition EL anytime soon. He has not heard of anything as of yet. He did say that in the last couple years, he has had many people asking for the diesel. He said it was funny that the Excursion and diesel was a "bad" vehicle when it was here (by tree huggers) and now everyone is begging for it! I did tell him I heard that Dodge was coming out with a 3/4 ton diesel SUV in 2008. He was surprised and said that Ford will more than like counter that move. I love the Excursion but having an 03 with a 6.0, I would be willing to buy an Expedition EL Diesel with a warranty! I guess it is just piece of mind.

Where'd you hear that? Got a link or something? I know they are planning on putting a diesel in the GRand Chrokee but hadn't heard of a 3/4 ton based SUV. Wouldn't make a whole lot of sense right now. Heck, Dodge can't give away those horrid, looking Durangos.
Yum...could you imagine! An Excursion with the new dash and front suspension of the Super Duty, that 3V V10 and Torqshift, an interior thats equal or better than the current Expedition all with heavy duty running gear and a 12K tow rating! Hope they put real suspension under it. However...
If anything I can see them dropping a diesel in the Expy when they do the F-150 and maybe beefing up the suspension for heavy(er) hauling.
If Dodge did come out with a 3/4 diesel SUV, I think they would own the market. The geniuses at GM can't seem to figure out a way to put a Duramax in the only 3/4 SUV on the market so why shouldn't Dodge. I would think that Dodge could sell a ton of them and GM and especially Ford would be foolish if they didn't counter.
