I bought a cow last Thursday. A milk cow that is. It's been a few years since I've milked, but I'm getting the hang of it now. It's sure nice to have all that nice rich milk and cream around. Made some butter too. Mmmmmmm......
She's a little Jersey and I got the calf along with her. The wife's never milked before and she doing it when I'm on shift. She's doing pretty good too. Oh, and just so it's Ford truck related, I brought them home with my '96.
lol...so now the '96 is a cowhauler?? nothing beats the taste of real milk, cream, cheese, butter. been a while since i've had it, but i remember it being good...
Well, sort of. I borrowed a small, beat up single horse trailer from the inlaws and had to put a new floor in it. Had some lumber around, so no big deal. Looked pretty silly behind the truck though. Made another batch of butter today. Milkshakes the other day. Maybe if it gets warm we'll make ice cream too.
Maybe you were but there was an FTE reorganization a while back so some members aren`t members any more.
I got this when I checked: wpgf250 is not a member of any public groups.
So the thing to do is to reapply soon and when you do then send me an email.
I paid $450 for the cow and $20 for the 3 day old bull calf. Ask around at a local dairy. They usually cull several times a year and most just get rid of the bull calves. I just talked to a guy south of me the other day and he said that occasionally if nobody can take the bull calves, he just knocks them on the head and uses them for dog food. I told him I'd take them all!
The other cows this guy had for sale were in the $550-600 range. That's about average for a culled milk cow. If you get Jersey, watch the back teats. My cow has very small ones and they're really hard to milk properly. She had just freshed, though and was very calm, so I took her.
