Control arm bushings replacement cause more problems.
After replacing both control arm bushing the frame bolts wont stay tight. The 6 very long bolts come loose about every 10 days. Its seems to be crushing the frame but still come loose. Knocking real bad in the front also.
no grease on threads
wire brush threads
clean with spray brake cleaner or soak in acetone or toulene
wire brush top of frame and arm mount areas to remove rust and dirt
use Pablo's thread locker
torque to 190 lb ft
replace nuts with new grade 8 if they still don't hold. threads damaged by rust in removal
Yeah I think I will get some new frame nuts and bolts. If it don't hold after that I'll strip her down and use it for a work truck. I'll have the front cross member welded and use cheap tires
On a related note I will be replacing my ball joints and bushings soon. That rattling change sound when I hit a bump is driving me nuts. I know that the BJs are bad because they have play in them. Since I'm yanking the arms off anyways mine as well go all out and replace the bushings.
Anyhow since the new BJs bolt on and are not riveted. What should I torque the bolts to?
After reading this I am going to get new arm bolts just to be safe and will be using threadlocker blue on both the control arm bolts and BJ bolts.
Since its getting warmer around here I have no more excuses to put this off.
