How to manually flush/drain C6
'How do I drain the torque converter?
Do I need to replace the gasket?
What's a good place to get the filter?
The filter is really a screen and unless it's ripped does not need replacement.
Now is a good time to install a drain plug in the pan.
Remove the inspection cover between the engine and transmission.
Turn the convertor until you see a 7/16 plug.
Remove this and allow the convertor to drain.
This can be done with a 15/16" deep socket and ratchet on the front pulley.
Once the drain plug is positioned remove the ratchet and socket.
Pull the vacuum line off the modulator and see if any fluid is present.
If there is replace the modulator.
It is wise to replace the pan gasket.
Do not use any glue.
After you have it back together pour 6 quarts of fluid into it and start the engine.
Some recommend less but this transmission will hold up to 8 quarts without puking out the breather port.
Add fluid until it is just below the full mark.
Move the lever into each gear position and recheck the fluid level.

To drain the converter you need to remove the transmission inspection plate and you also may need to remove the starter to remove the inspection plate. The torque convertor has a drain plug and if you can't see it, you'll have to rotate the flexplate/convertor until you have the drain hole on the bottom. I use a wrench onto one of the convertor to flex-plate bolts to rotate the convertor. Then just remove the plug and let it drain. This is usually as far as I go for a draining the tranny fluid, but you can also disconnect the tranny lines from the transmission and then use compressed air to flush out the radiator if you want. After everything is all button back up, you can add three quarts of fluid through the tranny dipstick hole and then start up the truck and continue to add the appropriate amount of fluid for your tranny.
