Power steering question
On my 2001 F350 I notice if while sitting still with my foot on the brake, the power steering is very hard to turn or won't turn at all. I also get the feedback in the steering wheel and can hear the pump struggling. If I let off the brake it's fine and if it's rolling it's also fine. I just got the truck the other day. Is this normal with this heavy of a truck? My F150 doesn't do this but then the front axle is a CV joint and the steering pivot point is much closer to the center line of the wheel. The F350's front axle has the pivot point pretty far from the wheel's center to make room for the U-joints. I guess this is normal as the pump is trying to force the wheels to travel.

The PS pump also acts as the brake booster for your power brakes.
Check your PS fluid level, change it if it hasn't been changed.. You may also want to consider replacing your PS pump.
