I jumped a hot wire to the rear window motor in my '86 Bronco and got nothing. Hooked a circuit tester up to the other half of the pigtail and it's hot from the dash switch. I reckon the motor is toast.
With the motor not working, how do I get the window down to open the tailgate?
You can either dismount the arms from the window motor itself or from the rear window...it's a pain, a frustration, and a pain.lol...ut for reference...the passenger side motor will work as a replacement as well as,I believe the driver's......I think they are the same motors all the way around.Good Luck
Its not that hard I did it. I pulled a motor off of someone else rear window but it was just as much crap but now that its summer i dont care yet. Just take the panels off and becarful of those arms they have strong springs lol. before you get pissed at it look for more ways to do one thing. it will make your life waay easier.
Well I crawled in the back, poked my coconut into the access hole, pulled out the motor, and used a couple of big suction cups to push down the window. It should be a lot easier re-installing the new one with the tailgate down. Gumby must have installed it at the factory.
I tried two motors from O'Reilly's - grounded the case and jumped power to each of the two wires - and neither motor worked. Glad I did that before re-installing it or I'd have been really ticked rather than merely miffed. The Ford dealer will have one for me tomorrow, along with the weatherstripping.
The gal at the dealership called today and said she tried two warehouses and it shows discontinued. So I ordered one from LMC Truck instead, $99.95 plus shipping. Went ahead and got all new rubber for the tailgate too while I was at it. Sooner or later it's going to need new rubber all the way around anyway, might as well start in the back while everything's taken apart.

I got my broncograveyard.com catalog today they sell the motor for $50! im cheap lol
When i attempted to hot wire i never got it to work but it worked fine when installed and the tailgate closed. it was rather strange and I'm not sure about the schematics of it but with all the safety switches and external grounds maybe it's more than a simple connection???
That seems odd. Unless I'm missing something, if the case is grounded and you apply (+) voltage to the leads it should run the motor - like testing a starter motor. I even connected the circuit tester to the bolt holes and confirmed power across.
I reckon I'll take a leap of faith and just install the new motor without testing when it arrives.
I have repaired a both motors for the drivers and passenger doors. When bench testing I connected power to the two motor leads, not to the motor chassis. I do not think there is any internal connection to the motor housing itself. The window switches simply reverse polarity to the two wires for up/down motion. Perhaps the motors were good.
I'd test it before to see if it does work- but I did the same and could not get it to work outside it's cradle...i probably was screwing it up somehow. I figured it had something to do with the wiring to the safety switch on the door but also figured it was the ground.???
