mine is finicky too. Sometimes the glass sticks to the gasket, I've had my wife press the button while I tap/pry on the glass and it has *NOT* helped, so I'm guessing it's the motor... But, I'll live with it, I have bigger fish to fry.
Check for a broken wire in the passenger door boot, by the hinge. I had two broken wires. Seems to be a fairly common problem because that door is used a lot. Took me two years to check it and 30 minutes to fix. Wish I had looked there sooner. User Wallz was the one who told me about the failure point.
Four wires had been repaired previously by the previous owner. My two broke at the butt connectors they used on two of the repairs. If you can repair by soldering and shrink wrap, it will last a lot longer. The two that didn't break were both soldered and shrink wrapped.
Also, the rear switches are identical so you can swap it and test with the other rear door to rule out the switch.

Yet again, this forum is ahead of me! Mine stopped working about 2 weeks ago and haven't had the chance to get around to looking into it yet. Another fun electrical adventure in the Excursion...
