Hi there, being a new user is one thing, being the UK is the worst. Cant wait till the kids have grown up and we can spend more time in the US.
I have a 2001 excursion & its in need of a service, being on a budget like most people i repair/service most cars myself.
anyway i have no manual for the excursion so i'm asking basically whats the best type (not manufacture as we probably wont have the same in the UK)
i have read thats its 5-30. (please correct me if i'm wrong)
would this be fully synthetic or semi or just plain old oil
also how much does this rather large engine hold? as i dont want to be draining gallons onto the floor when my bucket overflows.
Your engine holds 6 qts of 5-20. I would also suggest full synthetic. you may burn a little synthetic though. A QT per 3Kmiles oil change seems to be the norm..
Good luck
Hi there, being a new user is one thing, being the UK is the worst.
How is the Excursion "accepted" there...if even at all. I've always felt that the Brits are bigger environuts that even the Californians. Is that true...generally?
I cannot imagine you enjoy filling it at those gas prices, either.
Any 5W-30 or 5W-20 will suffice actually. I haven't seen one on the market here that doesn't meet Ford's specifications. Get the one that best fits your budget.
Try eBay for one of the CD manuals. They work well in a pinch.
cheers guys for the advice , i dont think its had an oil change for years looking at the state of the filter. So i'm on that one now.
The excursion is only normally seen round here as a stretched limo, 30ft plus in length.
I have to say i have only had it a short time and its quite funny some of the looks you get.
The bonnet is higher than most people car roofs over here, almost everyone gives way to me now, much more than when i had my impreza... Dont know why
Excursion and Environmentalists should never be mentioned together. We have ones who stop traffic in london, all because people drive 4x4's and pollute the atmosphere.Still... Dont know what they would say if they saw one of these . I did think of this reason before purchasing, for at least 15 minutes and thought if i dont drive it about then someone else will. So i bought it.
. I was horrified at first when I found out my gas is costing me approx $1.00 a mile.
to be honest it don't use as much gas as i thought, My impreza's consumption rate went down to 5-6mpg when it was being 'driven' so i am used to seeing the gas gauge dropping rapidly although not all the time.
Auto insurance was much cheaper than i expected too (iro $800 yr)
Just cant fit it in any parking spaces over here , the back 4ft was sticking out into the road when i parked up in town the other day And i'll never get it into one of our multi-story car parks, ever.
Check the e-bay used book section for factory service manuals. The more tattered ones are insanely cheap . You need this manual . shipping on printed material is also low .
Well, my 02 SD V10 uses 6 3/4 quarts of oil for an oil/filter change. 6 quarts would put the dipstick just slightly above the add 1 quart line. The factory specifys 5w20, not 5w30, and the ford/ motorcraft 5w20 is all semi-synthetic.
Hi to everybody....I'm new here I own a 2001 X V10 here in Italy
(Gas Price: 5,55 USD/Gallon)
I'm very happy with that monster...unusual here...and absolutely too large for that little old streets...)
I would like a suggestion....
I currently use a GM 5W20 semi-sinth and is all right.....do you think can I have some problems (because its not a Motorcraft oil)???
Also...in our summer we will have usually 100/110 degrees daily....do you think that kind of oil can be right??
Thank you very much...
(Monsta you are #1....)

Just got back from a month in sunny, warm, rain free Germany... saw enough SUVs sucking down expensive $7 per gallon gasoline to make me question the wisdom of many many people
Any way---your question--- the V10 will not care if you use the GM product. I don't know if you can get the MC product...I suspect they are both the same formulation... thus from a mechanical point of view there is no problem....so the only issue would be a True Ford man sending his money to the competition
The Brand and weight you are using will not harm the motor even on your warm 100+ degree F days
