Fuel tank size?

Hi all. I recently purchased an '87 Bronco II XLT, 2.9 fuel injected, 5 SPD. manual, 4x4. I paid $400 and it runs great with no body damage or rust. Paint is peeling though.

I just drove 100-120 miles on a quarter tank. This seems like good mileage to me...depending on the size of the gas tank. (Its a hell of a lot better than the 7-8 i get with my '67 f-100) I was wondering if anyone knew what size tanks came on these and what kind of milage I could expect (I am "trying" to keep my foot off the floorboard, too).

Any info would be greatly appreciated!

And by the way... everything is stock.

My fiancee has the exact same Bronco II as you. I believe hers is a 20 or 21 gal. She averages 20-22mpg. And thats with her going 75mph a lot of the time on the highway.

All the 1st generation tanks are 23 gal (Yours is 1st gen). Not sure about 2nd gen but I think at least 23 gal also. 20mpg is not hard to get in a good running B2 when driven reasonably. Mine got over 20 hwy before I started moddin it.

Actually, the '84-'85 used one tank, and the '86-up used another, the fuel-injected BII tanks were different as far as fittings, but all tanks, if I am NOT mistaken, were all 23-gallon tanks. I know for a fact mine is, because I have run it down to bone dry (engine died as I was rolling into the gas station... and it took 22.something gallons to fill it). I have gotten as much as 475 miles to a tank between fill-ups, with P235/75R-15 all-terrain suv tires on it (not so much the case now, as I'm not as open-road where I live, and my Goodyear MT/Rs and steel wheels have just a tad more drag on economy.).

A while ago someone used to sell a 30gal tank that required a 2in BL because the extra capacity came from using the void created by the BL. I have a BL and was considering buying one. I didn't and now you can't get them any more. I wish i had bought one then.

All the parts resources I looked at have the '86-'90 using one part number, and '84-'85 using another, and that they are all 23 gallon tanks.
