We got some made up this spring from 7/8" cable from an elevator car puller (100 car spot). Northern Strand braided the ends, put in thimbles, put on hooks, and sized and rated everything. We made a 30', 50' and 80'. The cable is rated at 88000 pounds and the hooks are 110000 pounds. I had a clevis from when I worked at the mine and they rated it at 300000 pounds! Hooks are 5:1 and clevis is 6:1 safety ratio. This stuff is heavy to lug around but Brutus (our CaseIH 9390 that puts out about 465 horsepower and weighs 47000 pounds) can really 'grunt' with the metric duals that are 3' wide each and over 6' tall.
My neighor did the same thing a few years ago with a 3/4" rated at 60000 pounds and it has been well used without failure!
When we got it made up the plan was to not use it - I was stuck twice so far but didnt dig in too hard, unhooked, got tractor out, then pulled out the air drill and anhydrous bottle. Damn big job to unhook all that hydraulic and electric stuff! Hired man gave me a bit of a talking to after the second stuck trying to level out some ruts from the first stuck (and rightly so!!!).
