Question Reese Hitch Help

I recently purchased a used Reese model 36034 hitch for my 93 F150. I was told it came off of a 89 f150 and would fit my truck. I recieved the hitch and after looking at it, I'm starting to think it may not fit. I have researched all over the internet but can't find any useful information about this hitch. People do have it and are selling it, but when it's listed it says it's a multifunctional hitch for Ford, Chevy, dodge and others. Doesn't give vehicle models/years it fits. Reese doesn't carry that model number any longer so their website is no help. I sent them an email a few days ago asking what if fit, but have yet to hear anything back. Any help would be great.

Thanks in advance.

cant you physically lift it into place and see of any holes line up? or if the silly thing even fits the frame rails? it probably has flanges that were bolted on the ends of the lateral bar, if so I would tend to think these were interchangable depending on application. I know it is not any real help but maybe if you answered the questions someone would have enough info to help.

Was that older hitch bolted on or welded? I can't remember when the first bolt-on hitches were made. Way back when, my old 66 Dodge had to have one welded on...removed it and had it welded on my 75 Chevy Van. Sometime after that, they started making them to mount via bolts.....

U-Haul carries and installs Reese hitches. You could give them a call, or load it up and take it to U-Haul. They might be able help out.

Have you tried contacting your local Ford dealership?

It's a bolt on and I was told it came off a 89 f150. I"ve put the hitch under mine and lines up on the frame and it looks like it's close to bolting up, but the the frame rivets don't fit into the holes I think they are supposed to.I've tried U-Haul. They only have the latest Reese catalog, and since they don't make that hitch anymore it wasn't listed anywhere. I saw someone else selling one who had the a pic of the install instructions. It says fits Chevy, GMC, Dodoge, and Ford pickup trucks.....grrrr but not models.

Since you phyically put the hitch under your truck and looked at it with your own eyes, I'd say don't use it, unless you're 100% sure it lines up the way you think it should.

Since you think the frame rivets are not lining up where you think they should, I suggest finding something else that does fit properly.

Go with your gut feeling, if it doesn't feel right, it isn't the one you want. You want the one that leaves NO DOUBT in your mind that you the right equipment to do the job safely.

Check for Spacers

I just installed a Class III on my '96 F150.

The rivets aren't supposed to line up to holes on the mounting brackets.

Those holes are for the bolts.

The kit should have brass spacers to put between the frame and the hitch mounting plates. This will give you clearance over the rivets for the crossmember that runs behind the gastank.

My Reese instructions say it will fit a 78-96 F150, but you'll have to drill 1/2" holes in the frame.

I never recomend a universal hitch if the frame spacers are required to clear the rivets. If you decide to use it, get some 1/2" spacers, you need 6, they will go between the hitch and the frame. Most hitch shops have a gazillion laying around that they would likely give you. If you get desperate, PM me and I'll send you some, but be patient please.

Post a picture, and I'll try to sort it out.

Whatever you do - use grade eight or higher bolts.
