I need the specs for coolant. What kind, how much, pre-mix, additive? whatever you guys think. The water pump went out and has been changed now i need to add the coolant.

Well, I just changed mine and I used 4 gal and 1 qt of GO-5 Zerex (Ford gold equivalant) and it took 2.5 gal of distilled water ( the rest of the water was in there from the flush). Total capacity is listed at 33 quarts, but I added the coolant filter to prevent those water pump failures. I also did the 203* stat and billet housing all from dieselsite. Btw I drained the block plugs as well as the radiator. Someone should chime in here shortly with a link for instructions.

Oh yeah, what year truck? I think the earlier ones used the green stuff with th additave.

Just to be on the safe side you might want to get a test strip and check the gold stuff. It's not a heavy duty coolant like the Cat, Shell, and Peak global. The gold stuff "should" have the correct amount of SCA's in it, but I've read a few threads suggesting that it is not always the case.

Thanks, why do I always find this kinda stuff out after it's already done?
Mine came with the gold stuff and it seems to be pretty stable. It was just partially changed due to a bad temp sensor, but so far I see no reason to change it. If I ever do, I'll probably go with Rotella ELC (the red stuff).
Mines a 2000 Had the green stuff in it i figured on going back with that and the additive, dealership told me 2 gall of the green and one quart of the additive then fill with water. Let me know if i need to do otherwise. Thanks for the advise guys

That won't be enough coolant. Assuming you flush the system and don't pull the block drains you will have roughly 2 gallons of water in it before you start. You need to add two gallons of coolant to get even then top it with a 50/50 mix. You will also need 3-4 pints of SCA to get it to the proper level.
I bought 8 gallons and still have 2 left over so apparently I didn't get it all out EVEN with the blocks drains pulled and running the truck without coolant for a minute or so to make sure the water pump would be empty..... I barely stuffed 6 gallons in it. I even parked the truck nose high, nos elow, etc.... to make sure and no luck. I even pulled a heater hose and blew the core out too!!!
I'll never go with the green though. I've been talking with some of our Chief Engineers on our boats here at work and if I wouldn't have already bought the ELC I would've bought some Nalcool for it. Either way though, no more regular testing for me...
