I just bought my 99 f350 and want to upgrade to the 05 front end. I scored a grill in almost perfect shape on ebay for 30 bucks. Aside from installing a new bumper does anyone know what else has to be done if anything? Thanks
There have been posts before on this -- see if you can search for them. There is some cutting/grinding/drilling involved, but I don't exactly remember where. Just be careful cutting/grinding the chrome parts!!
In my opinion, it is the lights that really make the difference. The lenses on my 99 are so dull and faded, they look terrible. Do some searches on the Superduty section and you will find lots of info on what years fit best, etc...

Try this before you buy new ones...it worked on my 99. Get a buffing wheel and apply polishing compound (white, light grit) and hit those lens, then I waxed them. I wish I had a camera and had taken a before and after...they look new! The sand in the desert had them dull and now they are crystal clear. Now they may go back to hazy and if they do I'll buy 2005's, but until then I am really pleased.
i would keep the stock bumper and just the lights. if you wanted the bumper to match the rest of your truck just powder coat it (which is what i'll be doing) instead of buying a newer version cuz like ED said its the lights that make the big difference.
I agree with nlemerise.
I did the same with a crown victoria (very ugly yellow lenses) and with a mustang (very much the same). I think it's a problem with the plastic. After the buffing, the lenses look like new (i used a very fine polishing compound and formula wax for the finishing). Have to see to believe.
you can clean them, but the light output will never compare to that of the 05+ headlights. it is day and night difference. I am so glad I have them now!!!
I gotta say i like the old bumper new lights/grille combo...NICE deal on that grille, i paid 200$ from fords. Heres some pics of before and after using just the stock bumper..

There is no cutting or grinding if you replace the header panel. If, after reading all of the above posts you decide you do not want a hybrid front,(meaning a mix of various era fronts), powerstrokeshop.com has all the stuff for a no-cut bolt up install availible as a kit. I think the only cutting may be on the pigtail for the lights.
What it takes comes down to what you want to do. Previous posters have described varying levels of conversion with varying levels of cost, with a full front conversion topping the list as the most expensive. It all comes down to how much cash you wanna drop on giving your truck a new look.
i like the chrome bumber look..my truck is all black with chrome and SS..the 05 plastic bumper just dont look good for a super duty...just my thoughts.
