So you suggest the VB over the shift kit?

Yes. The VB has a transgo shift kit plate in it. Just that it has been modified to shift better. Also, they will tell you how to adjust it if you don't like the shift but you probably would. There are also other enhancements. Give BTS a call and ask Brian or Cale

the BTS VB would be the easiest way for sure, ATSG manuals are probably the best coverage.

tommyl, I would say there is nothing off topic here. The two are definately related. Sorry you feel this way.

Install a later model radiator that has the Trans Cooler in the lower tank. To bring your trans temps down and keep them there.

Will a '02 V10 radiator retro fit into my '99 PSD?

Yes, I had the v-10 cooler in my truck. trans temps dont go over 160 now. Check your radiator and condensor and make sure they are cleaned. Mine were dirty, i cleaned it and my trans temps are much lower now.

I have a 2002 PSD f250. My trans temps run 165 around town. I noticed that it reached 195 when pulling a 7000k camper this summer. Temps were around 85 degrees outside. The trans shifts fine but I am worried about these temps. Is this too high? We are leaving for charleston this weekend and will be pulling the camper for 5 hours. What temp is too high? I just bought the truck this spring and it has 91000k miles on it. Don't know if the fluid has been changed. Where is the best place to have it changed? Not the stealership I hope. Thanks guys

There's your problem. It's worn out. 91 million miles must be a record!

k means 1000. 91000k = 91,000,000.

I answered your question in the thread you started. I'm not going to type it here, too.

Orthogod1 -I just installed a Tru- cool max 4739 trans cooler. Check dieselsite and talk to Bob there. This should drop your temps app. 30-40 degrees.- Id change the fluid also if your not sure when you install the trans. cooler. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't go more than 210 for any length of time. You can change it in your driveway. Drain the pan via the drain plug and move the TC till you can see the drain plug (if there isn't one, then you can't do it) and drain that too. New filter and fluid should be good for it.

I would retrofit the later model radiator with the trans cooler in it. the add on air coolers will decrease the temps, but the water cooler in the raditor is very efficient. Plus wont decrease line pressure from the pump-like two stacked cooler will.

I want the newer style radiator, but i can't justify the cost, and also a 6L cooler swap is still cheaper. Im going to the woodward dream cruise in 3 weeks, this will be my true test if i fixed my trans heating problem by cleaning out the radiator, because everyone that was down there with PSD was running a max of 165, i was running up close to 200+ i shut down at 210 everytime and parked which sucked. Its hard to find a place to park, i looked like an old muscle car parking to cool off. If I still h ave thie problem, im going the 6l cooler route with a fan to help just cool the trans fluid.
