2001 F150 Screw XLT 2WD w/ 5.4L w/ factory towing package. This truck is so stock that when replacing the tires I have continued with the same brand. It has about 80K miles.
I have noticed the last few days when backing out of my driveway in the morning, There has been an odd, rapid, acceleration/deceleration pulse while in reverse. It is not so much as to be a hazard. It is very soft symptom. I'm wondering if this is an indication of an issue I should start worrying about. It occurs whether I'm braking or not. Once it warms up, it does not happen again. It doesn't even happen if the truck has been out in the sun all day. It only happens first thing in the morning if the truck has been sitting through the cool night.
Is it something I should begin looking into, or am I being overly sensitive.
The truck has been flawless other than COP replacements and other routine maintenance. I just don't want to get surprised on the road during my infrenquent, but long, trips.
I'll throw two guesses out there. Possibly an IAC starting to go bad or a small vacuum leak. What you're describing sounds like what happens when you reset the computer and it's re-learning how to idle. Not sure where that leads to as far as a solution.
