Trust your backup sensors!!!

So I'm parked in my buddy's town house complex. I jump in the truck to go pickup a few bags of ice from the store. I put the truck in reverese to back out of the spot. I start to hear the back up sensors going off. I think to myself "there are no parking spaces behind me so there can't be any cars back there and there were no kids playing. Must be a false reading from something off to the side or something". I continue backing up. Beep......beep....beep...beep..beep.beepbeeeeeeeee ep!!! WHAM!!!!

I get out expecting to see my truck on top of a Yugo or something. Instead, I had backed right into one of those 12 unit mail boxes!!! $#@%!!!!!

Damage wasn't that bad. Just have a nice sized creased dent in the tail gate but I feel like I'm driving around with a big ol' sign that reads "I'M AN ********!!"

Ironically, the dealer body shop gave me the cheapest estimate to repair it...$460.00!!

Sigh...

That's because they'll use a used tail gate that's in good shape and paint it to match the truck. The other body shops would have either used new, or tried to repair it.

WOW...great testimonial about believing in your safety devices. Like a pilot in believing in his instruments. It's tough having to learn that way tho.... ummm, you sound like ME~~

Actually, I asked if they had to replace the entire tail gate and they said they were just going to repair it (pull out the dent, fill, buff, paint). This is actually what I wanted them to do (and basically, all that needs to be done) plus I don't feel like having to go have the spray on Rhino Lining re-applied to that section.

I really like those sensors on my new 07' truck. I park against a fence at work and as soon as I hear that solid beeeeeeeeeeeep sound I stop and I'm around 8" from the fence. Sure is better than my old truck method. Wait for the, Bang! and then roll ahead a couple inches..

i took down a parking lot sign once with mine. not even a scratch, only a minor dent in the plastic around the bumper, gotta look really close to see it. F150 vs pointless sign (how often do YOU read signs in a parking lot?): 1 - 0 :P

I backed into a jeep at work. He had a big as baja typr bumper on so i was getting a false reading. Tone was not solid and cruuunch. I was backing slowly so there was no damage.
