My 2001 F-150 FX4 (5.4L/Auto Trans) is having a small problem. When I accelerate from a stop in 2WD, the truck will move forward but shake slightly until it seems to "catch", at which time it accelerate/shift fine. It happens even more when I am taking a left hand turn (not right) or towing anything. I am not sure if this is a transmission problem or more related to the U-joints or Diff. Any advice or direction would be greatly appreciated.
The friction and steel disks might be worn. How many miles on the vehicle? and what color is the tranmission fluid? how long has it been since you had a transmission flush or service?.
I currently have 84,000 miles. I have not had the transmission flushed/changed since I have owned the vehicle, which I purchased with 40,000 miles. If the problem is the these disks, what is the best course of action for repair? What cost is typically incurred?
Yea you are in need of a transmission service. You can try doing it yourself by dropping the pan n changing the filter/fluid. But I dont know the cost of how much a trans shop would charge for a flush or overhual. You will have to call around for that.If it is the disks you will need a transmission overhual, theres no other way of fixing it that.
