My parents have a 2001 F-150 with a 5.4 and the engine will buck under heavy acceleration. However, if you feather the throttle, the problem is not apparent. The truck is not throwing any sort of code. The problem seems to be more prevalent during warmer weather and in Texas this is quite often. I know others have had issues with this bucking but a full diagnostic (performed about a year ago now) revealed nothing. I appreciate your responses in advance.
Also, have your catalytic converter checked. My 1995 F-150 did the same thing, some days down on power and bucking badly, other days hardly acting up at all. No codes, 5 trips to the dealer, they finally found the preconverter matrix had disintegrated and clogged the converter.
The other thing I noticed when it was acting up is the exhaust note would change, it could almost be described as a nasal note.
Thanks for your replies. We have changed the fuel filter (once) and ran injector cleaner through it several times since the problem first became apparent with no results. I'll have to look into the catalytic converter issue. The fact that the truck typically only acts up in warmer weather has always led me to believe that there may be a problem with a sensor but since no code is being given I really wouldn't know where to begin.
