What would be the best way to lower a 78 or 79 Ford Bronco. I am looking for a 3/4 drop height. I know most people don't lower 4x4's, but I am going for something unique. Would it be easier to convert the Bronco to two wheel drive or leave it four? Thanks
The rear can be lowered by a simple "flip" meaning attaching the axle housing on top of the springs instead of the bottom. This will require a pro to weld on new spring perches with the proper driveshaft angle. The front could be a problem though. Shorter coil springs should be used (custom springs, NOT cut stockers). This could mess with proper steering geometry and axle centerline orientation, plus driveshaft angles. As for 2wd conversion, anything is possible, but difficult on your straight axle Bronco.
Lowering a 79? It should be illegal! Ahh! Seriously though, I would think you would have to consider clearence between the oil pan and axle. I remember seeing a late 80's bronc converted to 2WD and lowered in one of the truckin mags a few years back. Kinda looked cool!
Hello everyone, did'nt they, at one time, make a two wheel drive full size bronco? I swear i've seen one some where before. Any way, lowering a 4x4 doesnt seem practical, and if you did lower it you would have to watch out for the radius arms dragging across things like, RR tracks, speed bumps, curbs, etc. and if you bend them, it will mess up your front end alighnment. Have a good one. Rob
