I was looking at the rear shackels on my 89 the other day. Was wondering if you switch sides with the shackel hangers and turn them up side down with the shackel pointing downward, If this would give you some lift/better spring travel. These broncos are new to me so I do not know alot about them yet. Has anybody tried this yet? If you have how much did it lift you. And did it increase the body roll? Thanks!

I've also been looking at doing the same thing to my 78. Rather than flip the whole rear shackle hanger, like you mentioned, I'm either foing to cut a hole in the bottom of the stock one, or make a compelete custom unit. Altho WHEN is another question in itself. I've seen this done with Chevy's, and wanted to do it to mine when I owned one(never did, sold the Chevy, thanking God still!). If doing this is anything the same, then you could expect a 4" lift using stock springs, and forgo the rear lift blocks. As far as I understand, it doesn't affect anything else, but just to lift it.
But then, I also got to thinking.....since I myself, want to get even more involved with offroading, I've decided to design a buggy spring to work with the Bronco to get even more travel than the shackle flip can provide.
I also have had this done to a prior chevy 4x4. Worked good and gave 5 or so inches. The reason I was talking about switching the shackle hanger brackets side to side was because you would not have to drill new holes or comprimise the streghth of the factory bracket.I just did not want to cut out those factory rivets to find out it did not work. On my long wheel base chevy the Pinion angle fell in nearly perfect. I dont know how it would be on a short Bronco. Any idea how much lift these Broncos can take befor you need longer drive lines?
Hey guys,
Is there a site that I can look up the shackle flip instructions? Is it as simple as switching side that the shackles are on. I have added the new springs to the rear so the bolts are fairly easy to remove. Any help?
