If the locks not bent really bad, should be able to strighten it out to make it close tighter. Did you replace ALL the rubber around the vent?

Check your door alignment.
Maybe over the years the front edge sticks out, or the top has been bent out. You can bend them back into submission pretty easily.
Also the Door hinge pins wear out. You can replace them and get the door to shut well again.

Those wings didnt whistle when they were new. I bought a 73 F-250 brand new. It was pretty quiet. No whistle or wind noise at all.

I photoshoped two pics of my truck with no vent window. Only did the side facing the camera because I was in a hurry. I like the look but I'm not sure I want to pay the price and do the labor until mine get in bad shape. Take a look at the last 4 photos in my gallery.

Thanks for the animation, dlburch.

Sure looks funny without the vent wing...somehow, it looks bloated without.

I agree it looks strange. I have seen some pictures of some chevys and older Fords that look really good though, so I was suprised at how strange it looked.

Someone pressed on the glass when the vent was all the way open, or jimmied the window, which bent the the upper pivot. The vent frame shaft is prolly also bent. The pivot can be replaced. The frames are identical 1961/66 F-N-NT-T100/1100, and also were used on the N/NT and T series 1967/69.

It could also be the latch. On mine, it is just bent slightly over its 30 years of use so the latch doesn't hold it shut as tight. I use a nickel to hold it shut, but I may try to bend it back and see if that helps. The plastic on the end of the latch (to keep it from scratching the window pillar) is also worn down.

Looks like someone beat me to the picture. I took a picture of my truck yesterday which I was going to edit but I guess I'm too late!

I do think it looks odd without the vent window... I don't know if it would grow on me or not. I'm probably just going to fix up my windows and leave them original.

You are right, I just looked at the picture again...there's supposed to be a "wave" washer on the vent frame handle shaft to keep the handle tight to the division bar. I wonder if it's still there? The same wave washer was used on every 1957 and later Ford car or truck that had vent windows = B7A-7022986-A.

EDIT: FTE sponsor GREEN SALES has 9 right side vent frame handles and 4 left vent frame handles in stock. (800-543-4959) The "wave" washer is supposed to come with the handle. If you buy one of these handles, make sure the wave washer is in the box. (On their parts locator website, they don't have any washers in stock)

My other post dissapeared. I musta said sumpin ugly.
I think the trucks look better without the wings.
And the Visibility to the side mirror must be improved greatly.

Many Thanks to the two Photo Shop hot shots for the look-see.

Now if we can come up with one kit, that will replace the front window glass and provied for electric window lifts, we'd have a new lease on convenience that might cause the Mrs. to help you like your truck enough to keep it.

Yeah I agree, kinda looks dumb without it. I'll check to see if the frame is bent, that might be the best explination.

It would allow you to move the mirrors further forward, that might change the way it looks.
