Painting and Rust issues

These are the major rust spots on the body... i'm sure there is some in the frame or something but I wont know until I take it apart. What I'm asking about the rust spots is. Whats the best way to fix them. I mean what is the body shop usually do with it... fill it in? Use metal? About how much would that cost?

About how much do you think it would cost to paint doors, quarter panels, cab, and hood on a 77 F150? Also, would it reduce the cost substancially if I blasted the things myself?

the best way is to cut back the bad spots and weld in patch panels. cab corners and the drip rail area should not be hard to fix, the hood is probably trash, based on the pictures I saw, need a new one. and this is what a body shop should do. It is not cheap, I don't know what type of budget you are on but about 30-40 bucks and hour to fix that stuff and to paint. If you are going to spot repair I would not recomend blasting anything. Might be looking close to 3-4 thousand depending on how the rest of the body looked.

Once you replace the panels, I would shoot them with 2 coats of a good quality Epoxy primer.

May I ask why you would say that the hood is trash? I just want to know what the professional opinion is on it.

Also what type of abrassive would you use when blasting vehicle parts? I blast concrete and we use silica sand and black magic blasting abrasive.... are those to harsh for paint and metal?

You may think about looking for a different cab, IMO. The hood rust and cab corners aren't a big deal, but the roof rust is kinda major. you would have to cut it out and you no longer can get roof skins to replace it. The would take some work and honestly the money you would have spent to get those things fixed, you probably could find a rust free or nicer cab for a lot less. But that's just me.

To use on the exterior sheetmetal, you would need a low pressure sandblater and plastic media. If you use a high pressue blaster, you would warp the heck out of the metal and leave "pits" all over. AFAIK, only professional restoration shops use the low pressure blasters. As a do it yourselfer, you'd be better off just sanding the outside down to bare metal.
