Had to move my tag up to the liftgate cause new hi-lift jack was blocking the tag on the bumper. Went got universal light to put over it and wiried everything up purty like....only had one wire to run to the hot wire but of course light wont light. Ran my wire to the brown cause I thought that was the 'hot' and tried the black when still no light. Mind you, I tried both wires from original tag lite.
At a loss guys...any advice to fix my troubles before I get a ticket would be MOST appreciated!
Check your "hot" wire with a test light or voltmeter. I'll bet though that your problem is that the liftgate is fiberglass. Fiberglass won't conduct electricity. So you'll have to run a separate ground wire from the light bracket to your frame or bumper.
Yep, the liftgate is fiberglass. You'll need to run a separate (-) negative / ground wire to the light fixture itself. What I am wondering is.... how you mounted your hi-lift jack that it'd cover any part of the license plate....
Thanks KP...I didnt think about the light bracket being the 'ground'. I mounted the jack centered on my rear bumper and the Military Police here at Fort Carson said I had to move one or the other....
