Anyone replace their OEM horn? I need to replace the horn on my 97 expedition. my new hella horn has 2 plugs a positive and negative. However the original horn (FIAMM) only has one lead to plug the wire to. What's the best way to wire it up? thanks!
I believe that the factory horn is grounded through the mount, and a switched positive signal makes it make noise.
The Hella has separate inputs because many imports through the years have had a switched ground as the signal to tell it to make noise. (Positive to the horn all the time) Like on my MG Midget...
SO, make a wire with leads and permanently ground the negative side to chassis ground, and you should be good to go.
Option 1: Go to a junkyard and get a direct bolt on and properly wired horn set that will sound like the original horn...
Well, The way I wire my new horns where...
Positive to the factory wire and negative to the chassis.
They work great. Only problem they aren't loads enough for me.
I may get a train horn.
Thanks got it all wired up, and working. The horns came with a relay, but I used the stock horn relay, seems to be no difference in loudness or tone. dakota I see what you mean by water getting in there. I'll have to figure out a deflector of some sort.
