Well I hate to be a late addition, but my truck too NEVER has any coolant in the resevour execpt for a little tiny bit at the bottom...after I top it up to the fill it sometimes comes out the overflow or just dissapears into the system. Hey the thing doesnt overheat, oh well why worry about it.

I have a snowmobile that does the same exact thing, theres no leaks I could find anywhere, its not burning coolant or anything but everytime I top off the coolant its competely gone within a ride or two...hey the thing runs fine, who the hell knows where it goes.

But my antifreeze looks downright disgusting, whats the best method to flush these things out?

I think some of you dont understand the coolent recovery systome and the one who says he has a whole fleet of fords and none of them work right needs to find another Mechanic.

when you service the systome you need to burp or bleed all of the air out or you will have the problam you are describing. it can be time consuming but it is an important step.

1 fill the radeator to the top.
2 fill the recovery tank 1/2 full.
3 tighten radeator cap
4 start engine
5 turn on heater
6 rev engine to 2000 RPM untill you feel worm air coming from heater.
7 let engine idle until the thermostat opens.
8 rev the engine to 2000 rpm or more for at least one minute.
9 idle it down for a minuet and shut it off
10 do not open the cap, let it cool down on its own, take a coffee brake. during this time it should be blowing steam into the recovery tank. you should here bubbles right after you sut it off. then when the presher drops to negative it will pull or suck some of the coolent out of the recovery tank.
11 when it is completely cool remove the cap and top off with coolent in the radeator and 1/2 fill the recovery tank
12 replace the cap
13 drive the truck for about 10 miles and let it cool again, repeat step 11 and 12.

it is a pain in the butt but if you dont do it you will have a angry custemer.once all the air is out the systome doesnt need to be opened untill the next service just check the recovery tank level every time you get gas. keep it half full.

the 2 main things that will calus the systome to not work are a bad cap or a bad hose frome the overflow to the recovery tank. this hose must seal good on both ends so it can hold enough negative presher to pull the coolent up hill to the radeator. and your radeator cap has 2 seals the first is set to 15 lbs to control the presher and the second is to keep the fluid and vacuum frome being lost at the radeator opening the must both be perfect.

Thanks for your input. MY engine builder used to work building engines for nascar I guess he knows nothing also
Well I just have to say all Major Company maintence is done at the local Ford garage And they have checked this many times. So your telling me that in the last 20 years (That I have work there ) that all of the mechanics that have went through knew nothing .And all the trucks that I bought at different dealers 5-6 of them all had bad mechanics to . Thanks .

By the way I check/ fill may rad just like you said Funny . My over flow is still empty . Good luck guys

I'm not touching it. It has been this way for a long time, never overheats, pulls like a mule and runs great. There has to be a reason why Ford went with the newer system where the reservoir is pressurized and part of the system. I would think it has something to do with this air in the system.

Thanks for all the input and sharing your experiences.
