Alright my dads truck is overheating. I changed the coolant about 2 months ago no problems but it was still kinda orange so i drained it and ran cleaner in it for a few days and it started over heating with it so we thought the thermostat was bad. And we changed it and im running more cleaner through it and its over heating even worse now. The thermostat is opening cause the upper hose is hot and its boiling out of the overflow tank. I have changed the coolant in this several times and never had a problem till now. And it always ran nice an cool. Truck is a 94 f150 4.9
try looking at the thermostatic fan clutch, it may not be pulling the right amount of air over rad. try hitting rad with cold water hose and see if temp says down this will test rad heat exchange capacity.
pull the thermostat back out (and leave it out) and see if this cures the problem. It may be a bad thermostat. (Just because it's new doesn't mean it's working, - it's not upside down is it?)

That has deff run through my mind and im probly gonna try it
I took the radiator out and the whole right side is rust brown. How can i clean this myself as my dad is a cheap **** and wont pay a radiator shop to clean it. And upper radiator hose is caked with it. And im prolly gonna take the water pump off and see how it looks too. Fan clutch ik is fine.
No i think its plugged i want to try cleaning it first. And heater core i might just replace since i have a bunch of them. Here i slready priced a new one its over $120 i cant see him spending that on a farm truck
So dad stopped being cheap and brought home a new raid and water pump. And i used acid to clean the hoses and other pieces. I just gonna have to put it back together and put more flush through it to clean the block head and heater core then hoping its good as new again.
Problem fixed after trial and error of replacing parts the radiator was the problem. Now its nice an cool again. But is there a reason why it heats up quite a bit before the tstat opens for the first then it doesnt go past the O in normal
