> and you dont think yanking on a truck wont bend a frame
You mean like this?
Only the flange here is bent. This is a BII where someone welded a single tow hook to the frame rail and the result speaks for itself. I don't think the frame is tweaked or diamonded, but, I havent checked the BII out yet (just bought it).
As I posted in previous threads, I like running channel side to side on top of the flange to balance the force and so the towhook can't pull the flange down.
That hook location, and mounting method was incorrect from the beginning.
when that weld breaks, or that piece of frame tears away, that hook goes flying.
Not too difficult to bend a frame in that spot with a c-channel style frame, and no support. Big ccrescent wrench willl put that frame back with little effort, but don't use that hook any more.
i need to find a ****** snap/tow rope for my mud truck i looked at ebay and the biggest one they have is 4" thick and like 30' long. i want at least a 6" thick strap but i dont think they make anything longer than 30" but i could get two but does anypone know where i can get a big ****** rope or tow rope. thanks.
Hauler, that link to redart shows a tow strap (NOT A ****** STRAP). But for what it is it looks good. I think I might get me a few for when I need a tow strap, thanks for the link.
But that is not the rubber band ****** strap we have been talking about!
thanks guys for all your replies but i just got four travelft slings for a boat that are a foot wide buy 30 feet long each and i got four of them they are made to haul out like 100,000 pound boat outta the water so they will never break. but they are like 50 pounds a strap so there kinda a pain in the butt to unload outta a big truck lol plus there like $500 a strap if not more and i got all of them plus the shackles for FREE!!
i've always used 6" 30' ****** straps from agri-supply. i prefer them over regular tow straps and i never trust anything frayed. when you've seen a complete hitch come out of a receiver and go through a passenger seat of a friends truck.. you'll never trust anything that isn't 100% again.
DZari, that kinetic rope is the trick man! I am glad you showed us that one. You would still need the 1 1/4 or 1 1/2" and the longest one is still 30' long. Have you used them? Do they hold up the abuse and resist fraying?
that stuff works great! i've seen it used many many times, but i never knew where to find it or what it was called so i never had any of my own. i saw it used to pull a fullsize bowtie out of some bad mud strangly enough by a jeep... hehe it was funny to me.
Double braided rope for big **** boats is what we use out here. We buy it by the spool, and divide it up. This way it can be cut to a desired leangth, and not limited to only 30 feet. Since it is braided, it can be cut and re braided to make a loop. We also use bigger than 1.5" diameter.
Taking care of it is the key to durability, and long life. They should be washed after every use. If the mud is allowed to stay in the material, the abrassive sand cuts away at the rope over a short period of time. It works like sandpaper rubbing away at the rope from the inside. washing them, and allowing them to fully dry before storage helps them last a very long time.
Oddly enough it comes in a 600' spool. Living so close to the ocean, we can find the stuff used sometimes. Try to stay away from the 3 strand twisted rope. I use a double braided 12 strand, in 2", and 2 3/8" inch. I use white, and not colored. The colored rope is not as strong. It is not cheap, almost 5 bucks a foot. Yeah, a complete spool runs around three thousand dollars, but we can get 12 50 foot ropes out of it, and divided over twelve guys, that comes out to about 250 bucks per rope. Still a bit spendy, but it works great, and lasts a very long time. I my ropes have outlasted my 6" straps, heak those 6" straps are right at 100 bucks, so the rope is a pretty good deal since it last so much longer.
Where you can buy it, away from the ocean, I am not to sure. Too heavy to ship. That stuff weighs a ton. Maybe a local boat supply place could hook you up, but you are going to have to find 11 other 4 wheeling buddies.
