do yall know of any manufacturer that makes an aftermarket h-beam or even i-beam rod for a 400? what about an interchangeablity option, like maybe using a big chevy rod or something, makes sense to though, i mean you got a choice of good heads and adaptable manifolds to make some seriouse numbers with but then you still stuck with stock rods, i know tim meyer has some h-beams he sells with that 434 kit but am unsure of the length and such on em, thanks fer the help
It's a good question. As an option you can have the stress points on the stock rods machined-ground down and them shotpeened for additional strength. Not sure if thats what your looking for.
High Performance cleveland rods should be readily avaiable and would take bushing? but probably very doable and decent selection?

Try TMI or contact one of the many rod companys about their custom rods. Customs will be big coin. I'm running a set of Oliver rods but at $1200, these aren't for a stock rebuild. If anyone has a set of decent priced rods, it would be TMI.
Just how strong are the 240 rods (6.79). Are they sufficient for a mild rebuild on a 351M/400? Yea, I know, use a shorter CH on the pistons--! Anyone have any info on them? Also how about the 300's at 6.2". Any good for 351W/C rebuild with proper pistons?
well lemme ask you this, how does putting new arp bolts in a rod nessecitate resizing the big end? i already have installed the arp's in my rods and everything measures fine and square with a set of inside micrometers,
well if it distorts the rod enough to where a mic cant pick it up, pretty much means to me that it aint worth worrying about, i've put the last 5 motors i've built together with arp's and none of them show any sort of unusual bearing wear after a season on the dragstrip turning 8800 or on the street after 30000 miles, so like ya say, its not worth messin with i dont reckon
"they" say it has to do with cap alignment, but i have long suspected that it's a machine shop myth designed to bring in more busine$$? then again, maybe that's why they call you "lucky"?
240 and 300s have 302 size (2.1232") journal diameters. 351m/400s have 2.311" rod journals. Would need to resize the journals on the crank to match.
The rod length in a 351m/400 is also 6.581" so going to a 300 (6.2") rod would be counter productive.
