Hey guys. I managed to wear out my horn switch. It started to just go on by itself earlier in the week after a "double thumb" extended duration blast... I was home having a beer and it just started a steady horn blow. I managed to find the relay and removed it, but I'd like to replace the switch. It also apparently controls the Cruise Control as well.
Are you sure it isn't a wire harness issue? I would pull the bottom off the steering column and make sure that the connector hasn't worked it's way loose, or the harness hasn't been worn through and has wires shorting out. I haven't heard of anyones switch actually going bad.
Mine isn't working either and so far I've tracked backward from the horns themselves. Who decided it was a good idea to mount the horns inside the fender anyway? I've unplugged the column connecter and shorted out the Dark Blue wire and the new horns sound. I just cut the old ones free and abandoned in place. I can hear the relay in the fuse box "click" when I press the horn pad. I've also taken apart the steering wheel and replaced the clock spring. I've got a manual, so there was a limited wiring diagram in there and I also got a printout from the dealer with many references to go see other pages instead of the details on one page. I know that the cruise controls are involved, but not sure how to test those switches to see if there's a problem with the cruise buttons on the wheel that keeps the horns from working. If I could bypass them and test the horn I would, not sure what to bypass? Also, there's that pesky air bag that's so fun to work around :0 I haven't owned the truck very long and don't believe the horns worked when I got it. The previous owner had a Code Alarm remote starter added which works fine. What I've done so far.
New clock spring
horn pad checked with continuity tester
horns sound when DK Blue wire from column connecter running to the fuse box is grounded to the steel on the knee bolster under the column.
Ran a ground wire from the column to the dash steel mounting.
New Horns using the wiring from the old horns.
relays swapped around in fuse box under dash and can hear clicking.
Don't know which relay under hood by the brakes may be involved, but pulled them and reseated each, but didn't swap around.
