I have an 00' E350 extended passenger van with around 88,000 on the 5.4. Recently my steering wheel started to vibrate while braking. Sometimes it's so intense that it makes a clacking noise while the steering wheel vibrates back a forth. Could this a braking problem or a steering problem? I also bought Bilstein shocks about 14 months ago and they've been great, but recently the van seems to be riding a lot rougher. Can these shocks go bad? Could it be the springs? I do a good amount to towing (5000-6000lbs) and frequently have heavy stuff in the back, but nothing that that really stresses the van out. My main problem is the steering wheel. Other than that this van has had a stellar 50,000+ year. Any suggestions would be great.
Thank You, Tyler Mahal

you have warped rotors. they need to be turned or replaced. hopefully it hasnt been going on to long and loosened all the joints in the steering shaft or in the tie rods.
start by driving slowly in an isolated area (empty parking lot)
lightly apply the brake while slowly rolling
if pedal pulses up and down slightly then rotors are warped
also loose tye rod and drag link ends can cause this problem
Thanks for the input. The problem only really starts to happen above 30mph and mainly when I apply a good amount of pressure to the brake. Thanks again, Tyler
I have the 15 passenger van, it did the same, I had high spots in the rotors, so I replaced them and the wheel bearings, the drivers side had worn the bearings so bad that I took the nut off bare handed. Don't wait long, I waited a year, it got to a point that the brake pad would bind up and cause the van to pull hard to one side, nearly wrecked me on the interstate.
