Tach conversion

I've been wondering how hard it is to change the base ( no tach ) factory instrument cluster with the optional ( with tach ) cluster. Could I scoop one from a junk yard and just plug it in, or is there some serious rewiring to be done? Any comments would be greatly appreciated.

I’m not sure about the wiring; I’d think the wire would be there. What year is your truck? Your biggest problem is the PATS which is controlled by the cluster, and the pairing. Your cluster is paired with your ECU, try and replace or remove it and you’ll have a shiny paperweight for a truck. A dealer can do it, but I’m not sure how it’d work with a used cluster. This is based of my 01, if yours is older or you don't have PATS you might not have this problem.

i thought about the same thing..but then figured it would be a complex job....and buying a nice stylish Auto meter gauge would get the job done

or if you want something not noticeable get an Edge programmer and tuck it away in by the dash..and it will tell you your rpms digitally.

It's a 2000 Canadian model and as stock and basic as you can get but still a nice ride. screwy, you meantioned the PATS. Is this the Anti-theft feature built into the ignition key?

Yes, the PATS system is the Anti-Theft System that comes with a huge paperweight of a key.
