I've never driven the 4.6; I went from my '03s V6 to my '07s 5.4, and I love the extra power, but the V6 did just fine. Keep in mind, all that extra acceleration you're looking for comes at the expense of gas mileage.
I disagree about the v-8 vs. v-6 mpg. I had the 3.0 v-6 with 5 speed in my 98 f-150 (reg cab with 8 ft bed). It got 15 mpg at best on the highway. My 5.4 3v gets that in the city. If you ask the v-6 to perform, it can, but it'll suck alot of gas, and will NOT be happy.
but, where is USMarine10?...he's only made the 2 posts? maybe his idea is.....STUPID
Yeah the 351 was rated for less horsepower but defientelys got more get up and go than a 4.6 in my opinion mine is a daily driver and i get pretty dam good mileage dont know exactly but i know if drive very nice which i do all the time its not as thirsty
Weird man 3.0 those are in rangers yours should of been 4.2 unless swapped out but yeah the v6 gotta work harder to move the big truck
well, I was wrong about that 3.0...my dad had said that was the motor it was, but after doing a little searching, it doesn't appear to have been an option.
The 5.8 has alot more torque seat wise than the 4.6...but not HP. That would be a plum dumb swap. Maybe a bored out 302...but still more effort than worth.
