Trailer Hitches?

So...my 05 had a big beefy bolted on hitch like the one ford advertised the heck out of back when these trucks came out....now i see on my new 07 the hitch looks much less beefy and is welded on, not bolted on. i'm a little ticked off.....not that it will probably ever make a difference....but i'm still mad.

It is integrated into the frame horns and the bumper support. It is rated the same, just redesigned. It also helps folks who want to do the MagnaFlow 16614 SIDO exhaust because the side gussets on the older design interfered with the rear hanger locations.

I just don't like the welded part, mainly cause if its ever damaged, your gunna have to have it cut off.

Mine isn't welded. I have an 06 screw. It is bolted between the frame horns and the bumper. The bumper is bolted to it also. The only thing that is welded on mine are the joints where the pieces of the hitch itself are assembled. Are you sure you weren't looking at the end of the frame horns?

My whole hitch is welded on my 06. What a "not so smart" idea. Like posted before, what happens if you ever (god forbid) get rear ended? The body shop wil have to cut it off the frame horns? not smart

The hitch on my 06 is the same as you described.
My bumper was a bit off center so I removed the bumper, loosened the hitch/bumper mount assembly and straightenned it out and remounted the bumper.

None of the hitchs are welded. All 04+ are bolted. Ford just changed the way they were bolted with the 05 or 06 models and up. The "frame" of the bumper is connected to the hitch and the whole assemble is bolted to the rear of the frame.

...And those 3 big bolts to the right are where the hitch/bumper assemble are bolted to the back of the frame.

However if you go look at your 05....you'll notice the whole darn thing is bolted....THROUGH the frame. here your still hoping any rear end damage doesn't damage the frame....

Seems to me like many body shops want to just replace the frame in the event of any serious collision, so I wouldn't worry about it.

Those side gussets are just the rear frame horn reinforcements. I don't think they are part of the hitch. They would be on the frame whether there is a hitch on the truck or not.
