I was under the front of my truck yesterday installing some train horns and noticed that there is oil leaking out of the intake pipe that goes from the turbo into the intercooler. It looks like its been leaking for a while because there is reside covered in dirt directly beneath where the oil is leaking out of. It is coming out of the rubber connector between the intercooler and the pipe. Is this normal, or does something need to be checked out? By the way, I have an 04 6.0 with 28,000 miles on it.
Yeah, that leak is normal as the 6.0 vents some of the crankcase pressure through the turbo cooling hoses and since that area is the lowest point oil will tend to collect there. I had my connection hoses replaced and the oil leak has stopped.
david11690 is correct. I was at the dealer the other day and asked the same question about my '04, and they said it was normal...not a problem to worry about.
I noticed oil laying in my CAC tubes when I installed my gauges, I didn't think anything of it. Took it to the dealer for an EGR...... came home w/ new turbo. They said the seals on the turbo shaft were leaking oil into my intake system...... Just another point of view / expirience. I haven't looked to see if there is oil laying in the CAC tubes still.
Had oil in my tubes at 26,000 was told it was normal, was in for another issue at 33,000 said it wasn't and changed it, same tech both times, and now at 77,500 guess what? It's normal again... hahaha... Got to love this crap... Mine runs great and doesn't smoke or loose oil between PM's so I'm good with it....
