2003 Expy with P0405 code

2003 Expy EB 2wd. I got the code "P0405 EGR Sensor A Circuit Low Input" today. Any ideas how to fix it? I know it deals with the EGR, but what all can I do. Where is it?
Thanks for any help!

Step 2

So I took the EGR Valve off and cleaned it, but light is still on. Any ideas what to do next? What else can I clean or replace?
Please help as the light is VERY annoying!
Thanks....

I am not sure if that is the fix for that code, but as a rule you have to clear the code and then see if it returns. To do this you either need a scan tool that will clear the codes or disconnect your battery for about 10 min. and see if it returns.

There is a 5v reference going to the DPFE (fancy name for the EGR position sensor). This code is basically stating that the sensor isn't seeing the whole 5 volts. This can be cause by a bad DPFE sensor, open 5v reference wire going to the sensor, or bad computer (highly unlikely).

These DPFE sensors have been redesigned as they caused a lot of problems, so it is your likely culprit. Make sure you get a Motorcraft sensor if you just want to "put one on and see", as a lot of the aftermarket brands still use the old design.

I should warn you though.. don't be surprised if there is another issue somewhere. Usually when these sensors go bad they set a P0401 code... but I still think this is most likely what is bad. Good luck.
