e40d

how does the e40d stand up to diesel torque? would i be better off looking for a stick?

maddog (1218 hp and 2k+ ft lbs) uses a built e4OD... but that's a BUILT e4OD... i think that the main problem with our tranny is the torque converter...

If you have a choice and don't mind shifting, get a stick. If you are towing or hauling heavy, get a stick. But you're going to need a better clutch tho. If you don't mind putting about $4-5K into a tranny and torque converter then the e4od will certainly get the job done.

if you're dragging though get a e4OD but i doubt you'd be doing that with a heavy 7.3 anyways

if i could do it over, and i still may, i would get a stick. more fun, more dependable. heat is the big killer of auto's. extra cooler will help that. mod's will kill the tranny so i hear. mine has 270k on it, don't know if it had work pre 220k when i got it. saw a buddy's '97 psd e4od go out at 200k that saw a lot of gooseneck towing. mine has been used to tow heavy for an extended or regular period of time, so i think that is why it has lasted this long. also i regularly service it and the engine doesn't have any power mods to speak of.

sweet the truck im looking at is unmodded... i knew they were ok behind 460s but wasnt sure about a diesel. dont know the history on the vehicle but it seems pretty solid... itll be the first diesel ive owned if i buy it.
