Hi, My 2002 Explorer with V8 and Automatic has about 2-3 second delay in engagement when going from Park or Reverse to Drive. This is worse when very cold. It does not happen when going from Park or Drive to Reverse.
I read something on another site about a faulty or sticking solenoid pack in the transmission. Yet when I took it to a dealer , it's out of warranty at 55,000, they said there was nothing wrong. There is something clearly wrong and now I am towing a small trailer and wondering if this is a damage indicator. Anybody have any experience with this solenoid pack problem ? Thanks.
If you go to the tab at the top that says "forums"... roll over it, and then click on list. Then scroll down to the "Small Chassis Trucks" category and click on Explorer... etc.
The mod should have caught this and moved you to the appropriate place, but since that didn't happen, I will help you out as much as I can.
But first, I need more info. Look on the information tag located inside the drivers side door. If I'm thinking right, the trans code will be a U, which indicates a 4R70W transmission. By what you're describing, it honestly sounds like the transmission is about to have a premature failure. The transmission in my truck started doing that at about 200,000 miles, and finally gave out at 219,500. But that was expected with that many miles. If yours is going out already, you might have a big problem.
